The Cow and the Ape
Once upon a time there was a jungle.
Deep down in this jungle little Ape lived together with his family. He was happy with so many trees to climb and bananas to eat.
But one day all the happiness went away, when little Ape discovered that his favourite places started to move, one by one. Everything was about to change, the trees grew out their branches, fetched out far and the roots strode out in long steps. Little Ape didn`t know what to do. He began to call for his friends. But no one answered. When little Ape searched around for them, he stumbled upon their belongings which they didn`t find important and were being left over.
Little Ape ran to his family: "All the trees are moving and my friends are gone!"
His family sat on the old family tree, which was so old and solid, it hadn`t and needn`t no roots anymore. One by one they sat there, calmingly opening their fruits and nuts.
"Don`t worry, little Ape", said his mother "that is just the big RUSH. Every now and then it happens. We don´t care and you shouldn`t either." Little Ape got even more confused: "But all my friends left with their families and all the trees are gone, too. Look around!"
Little Ape got desperate looking at the plain emptiness around him.
"Oh little Ape, what do we need other people and their trees for?!"
"Well, for life, maybe?"
"Our life is here. Of course now we have to search a little longer for our favourite fruits, but who cares?"

Little Ape decided to live and leave.

On his way alongside once densely covered places he hoovered like deserted on his feet. Walking instead of climbing. He got tired and fell asleep.
When he woke up, the sun had set and darkness was about to rise. He got frightened and as it got cold, he quickly started to freeze. In quite a distance he recognized strange trees with square boles and treetops shaped in an unusual form. As he approached the strange scenery, he heard somebody chewing. Little Ape stopped. As it was nearly dark now, he couldn`t make out who was chewing. He sniffed the smell of freshly cut grass and directed his steps to the point from where the sound came.
A warm zone surrounded the grass chewing object. Little Ape came close. He forced himself to speak up. "Hello", he said "Who are you?"
It was a cow and so it said: "I am a cow, and who are you?"
"I am little Ape and I don`t know where to go, I got lost." "Quite soon I´ll be going home, you can come with me, if you wish." Little Ape thought about it doubtfully but had no idea of anything else he could undertake. "Ok", he agreed "I`ll be coming with you." From then on, little Ape began to share company with the cow and her little calf.
The cow and little Ape became friends and helped each other out in every single way. The cow showed Ape how to survive among a community of human beings and the ape openend gates to new meadows for the cow.
But when they talked about their dreams it came out that they had little to share.
Little Ape wasn`t so concerned about it. He kept on moving as he always had done. The cow was sad but kept silent, silently chewing grass, she looked to the ground.
While she was gazing over the green grass to the horizon, a little animal fought its way through the grass jungle.
The cow recognized a furry something around her legs, which made her itch and giggle at the same time.
As she drew a close look to it, she recognized the shape of a rat. She knew rats, a lot of her friends and family were rats and so she decided that a little chat about this and that would be a good thing to do.
As she had no notion to keep her head down all the time, she allowed the rat to sit on her neck for conversation. As little Ape was busy he wouldn`t bother sharing his friend with the rat for some time, she thought. But the more involved the rat and the cow got also the happier the Ape got. He enjoyed jumping and dancing around and the cow glanced doubtfully into the sun set. When she announced that she was experiencing some strange conversation with the rat, little Ape was a little astonished but soon forgot about it. When she started worrying about that neck caressing and biting of the rat, little Ape got angry at the rat.
"Well, what about me?" the cow thought. She sighed and focussed on herself and the rat. If she was ever to be happy again she had to ask uncomfortable questions. She started off with the rat.
When she did so, instead of an answer, the rat opened its mouth and took a huge bite out of the cow`s neck and ran away with it. The injured cow was howling and feeling like a wolf. She galopped across the meadow only to see that the gates were closed and the fences solid. When she searched for help little Ape tried to open the gates but he was to weak as he hadn`t been practicing it for a long time. Nothing else the cow could do but blowing heat like a dragon.
Little Ape was very angry at the rat but kept cool and preferred consoling the cow as a means to come down. As the cow slept, the rat came back and took another bite from the cow. The cow was heavily bleeding again and she decided to go at war with the rat. Little Ape wasn`t too pleased with it but joined the army.
When the war was over, little Ape and the cow began to look at each other again.
There were wounds and traces of fight on bodys and meadow. Some spectators watched alongside the fence, others just passed by and some asked if help was needed.
Dead silence.
The cow covered herself with the first grass of spring and spoke up:
"I`ll be on my way now. I`ll be moving to some new place." Little Ape watched the cow carefully. "Yes", he agreed "that would be the best idea and I`ll come and visit you."
"So it shall be" answered the cow.
